Dunmanway Community Hospital’s very own Irish songbook features as part of Uillinn’s Bealtaine Exhibition this year!
Setting out with the aim of finding a song from every county in Ireland, Arts for Health participants in Dunmanway collected, discussed, and curated a long list of songs to create their book. Alongside musician Étáin Collins, the group discovered new tunes, sang old favourites, and shared family histories and funny recollections throughout the project.
This Story I Tell You Is True is the result of lively brainstorming sessions, careful considerations, and helpful suggestions from staff, family, and friends. In the end, after struggling to narrow down their vast selection of wonderful Cork songs, the group had to choose two! The final book contains 33 songs and feautures the very special The Banks of My Own Lovely Lee and The Boys of Kilmichael in pride of place!
This Story I Tell You Is True is on display at Uillinn West Cork Arts Centre until 31 May.
