We are delighted to include work by Wolfgang, an artist and resident of Skibbereen Community Hospital, in our Bealtaine Exhibition this year!
While participating in the Arts for Health programme, Wolfgang met visual artist Sharon dipity whom he engaged with through her work at the hospital. While in residence at the hospital Wolfgang continues to express himself through his artwork supported by Sharon and the healthcare staff at the hospital, who have supported him in transforming his room into a working studio. Wolfgang shares three artworks in this year’s Bealtaine Exhibition at Uillinn West Cork Arts Centre.
Here Wolfgang describes the work:
“I began creating these works whilst living in Community Hospital, where time felt both heavy and fragile. The materials, crumpled surfaces, layered textures, and continuous wire reflect tension between confinement and movement. Shaping and reshaping them became a way to process uncertainty, restore a sense of control, and transform limitation into expression. The wire lines trace an ongoing path suggesting resilience, continuity, and the human need to connect. These pieces are not only objects but records of endurance, where disruption becomes structure and chaos finds rhythm. Through them I explore healing, presence, and the possibility of forward motion with stillness.”
Bealtaine Festival
The Bealtaine Exhibition at Uillinn West Cork Arts Centre is running from 1 – 31 May. Bealtaine at Uillinn reflects the relationships we have built with artists, older people and our health and education partners across West Cork. The work shared is the result of time, trust and creative conversation. At Uillinn, we believe creativity should be accessible to everyone. Bealtaine is a powerful reminder of what happens when people are given the space, support and encouragement to make art. The projects in this year’s exhibition highlight the imagination and skill of older artists in our community. We are delighted to open our doors for a month of free events, screenings and open studios.
