Throughout the month of May we’re sharing a closer look at each project in our 2026 Bealtaine Exhibition. Today let’s focus on Stitch by Stitch – a painted bunting created by residents at Clonakilty Community Hospital.
Visual artist Emma Scully introduced the project to Arts for Health participants in Clonakilty in March. The project began with the group looking through various art books to gather inspiration and colour combinations. Each resident chose their favourite painting from the book to base their own work on. Everyone painted a square of canvas in response to their chosen piece of art. Paintings by Van Gogh, Monet, and Picasso inspired some of the panels. Once all paintings on canvas were complete, Emma stitched them together into bunting.
At the end of March, Stitch by Stitch was displayed in an exhibition of Arts for Health work at the Green Dot Café. Part of the Clonakilty Arts and Minds Festival, the exhibition showcased work created by participants at Clonakilty Community Hospital.
The Bealtaine Exhibition at Uillinn West Cork Arts Centre is running from 1 – 31 May 2026. Call in Monday to Saturday, 10am – 4.45pm. Check out our other Bealtaine events here.
