Bloom in Bantry
Bantry Day Care Centre

Inspired by the beautiful flowers of summer, Arts for Health participants at Bantry Day Care Centre worked collaboratively with visual artist Catherine Weld to create Bloom in Bantry.
In June and July 2025, Catherine spent five days in Bantry Day Care Centre working with each separate day group. Picking flowers fresh from the garden before each session, these became the focus of the work. The flowers brought up memories and stories of special occasions and people’s homes and gardens of past and present.
Participants worked with paint, pens, coloured pencils and collage to create gorgeous colourful pieces, each one unique to the personality and experiences of the person. Many were made with a beloved friend or relation in mind, reflecting the way in which flowers are often used as a token of love.
Each painting was photographed before it was brought home. Catherine used these images to create a large printed display for Bantry Day Care Centre’s entrance. The final collaborative piece showcases over 40 of the paintings. It’s a beautiful example of the creativity and originality of the participants involved.
