Advice To A Younger Generation

Bantry Day Care Centre, Castletownbere Day Care Centre, Clonakilty Community Hospital, Skibbereen Community Hospital, Bantry Community Hospital & Castletownbere Community Hospital

Singer-songwriter Liz Clark, toured all the hospitals and day care centres taking part in the programme. She was regularly hearing words of wisdom and pieces of advice from  participants across each healthcare setting. Inspired by this, Liz set about to consciously retrieve this advice.

‘In the process, I learned that it was difficult to just ask a person for advice without a context, so the following week I came with a printout of old Irish sayings and adages. This sparked a lively dialogue.’

An original song with widespread contributions taken from the discussions was constructed by the musician and was performed live at each setting for feedback and fine tuning. Finally the completed song was performed as part of a tour returning to each of the day care and hospitals taking part, with the Starling Band and at other venues across West Cork including at Skibbereen Arts Festival and the Glebe Gardens in Baltimore.

The Starling Band was formed through the Starling Song Project and is lead by Liz Clark with Deirdre Archbold, Christine Deady, Paula K O’Brien, all healthcare professionals working in Clonakilty Community Hospital who met through the programme.
