Arts for Health visual artist Sarah Ruttle brought In The Picture to Bantry Memory Café for Bealtaine Festival 2024!
To launch our Bealtaine festivities, Sarah facilitated the interactive session exploring artworks by Brian Lalor on 1 May in the Maritime Hotel.
In the Picture is a dementia-friendly gallery tour programme that usually takes place at Uillinn galleries. Taking the event on the road helps us offer the same experience to people further afield in West Cork. Attendees of the Bantry Memory Café had the unique opportunity to have artworks brought to their local space. Conversations were shared across the room around the ideas brought forward by looking at and exploring the selected artworks. The group discussed the geographical aspects of the work, the materials, and how it resonated with each of them. Many participants created their own drawings inspired by the artwork.
Brian Lalor kindly allowed a selection of his work to be shown at the memory café. Trained as an artist and architect, Brian Lalor is a master printmaker, a superb draughtsman, an art historian, a travel writer, editor and memoirist. The Retrospective Exhibition of the Work of Brian Lalor will exhibit at Uillinn West Cork Arts Centre from 27 July to 12 October 2024. The collection will include prints, publications, watercolours, drawings, sculpture, photographs, objects, artifacts and audio-visual presentations. The collection is curated by art historian Vera Ryan.
