In The Picture returns to Uillinn West Cork Arts Centre this Culture Night!
In The Picture is a dementia-friendly gallery tour facilitated by Arts for Health Artist Sarah Ruttle and Dementia Advisor Sarah Cairns. People with dementia, along with their professional and/or family carers, are invited to visit Pascal Ungerer’s captivating exhibition at Uillinn West Cork Arts Centre, and enjoy an evening of observing, discussing, and experiencing art in a safe and welcoming environment.
Each session includes a seated tour of the gallery with plenty of time to relax and enjoy the artwork, as well as the many beautiful views of Skibbereen from our building’s windows. Sessions might also include sharing stories and singing familiar songs over a hot cup of tea and a biscuit.
Our facilitators are very experienced in both care and arts professions. They create a warm atmosphere that encourages meaningful interactions where every person gets to enjoy the engagement at their own pace.
Sarah Ruttle describes the event, “In The Picture is a purposeful investigation of artwork in the gallery. Each session we take time to look at the artwork on exhibit and share space for communication through the senses. We will explore together how we see, feel and react to the artwork.”
These sessions are free but booking is essential. You can book by emailing us at info@westcorkartscentre.com or calling us on 028 22090.
If you are thinking of coming along, you can talk through any ideas, thoughts or concerns with the facilitators before your visit.
Elsewhere as part of the Arts for Health Culture Night programme, The Starling Band (Christine Deady, Deirdre Archbold, Paula K O’Brien, and Arts for Health Musician Liz Clark) will perform Seasons at Castletownbere Community Hospital. Seasons is an inclusive performance and sharing of songs, stories, and poetry dedicated to each season, curated and often performed by the residents themselves. Costumes, instruments, and harmonies all provided!
