A huge congratulations to Salt and Pepper for their win at Catalyst International Film Festival.
Salt and Pepper Collective are a group of older LGBTQ+ people living rurally around Skibbereen and across West Cork. Artist Toma McCullim facilitates Salt and Pepper, in partnership with Uillinn West Cork Arts Centre. The group won the JURYS SPECIAL MENTION for Best Irish Film with their short film ‘I’m in Love with Mother Nature’. Created on mobile phones through group participative process, Toma McCullim directed and facilitated the project, with edit and camera facilitation by Julie Ballands.
The Community Work Department South supported the project. HSE Principle Community Worker, Eleanor Moore, represented Arts for Health Partnership Programme and supported the Salt and Pepper Collective on the day.
Catalyst International Film Festival showed ‘I’m in Love with Mother Nature’ as part of a line-up of short film screenings. Launching in 2020, the festival aims to prioritise stories and storytellers currently under-represented on screen and behind the camera.
‘The jury would also like to give a special mention to a film that embraces and articulates beautifully the simple pleasures of life, exploring the fears and joys of aging, and providing a reassuring and realistic portrait of this universal yet under-represented part of humanity.’ – Róisín Geraghty and Lisa Mulcahy on ‘I’m in Love with Mother Nature’
The night was made extra special with a double win for Salt and Pepper! Collective member Kai Fiáin won the pitching competition for his feature script.
A wonderful day was had by all!
