Eckehard is a multi-instrumentalist with a background in Irish traditional music who has been performing and recording in a wide range of styles in various bands, duos and on his own over the last forty years. Being a West Cork resident since 1996, he has been organizing and playing in sessions of traditional Irish music on the Beara peninsula, as well as touring in Germany and Austria. From 2008 to 2013 he was chairman and booker for the Michael Dwyer Festival in Allihies.

Since 1996 he has been working with the Allihies Language Centre teaching and lecturing Irish Music to French students through Vacance Musicales sans Frontieres (VMsF). He has been a project worker at the Lehanmore Community Centre where he has been teaching music, and organizing regular sessions, workshops, and concerts since 2014. Recently he has started teaching open music classes at the primary school in Castletownbere.

After not being able to play live during Covid-19 he is back playing sessions in Beara, as well as playing regularly for the visitors of the Day Care Centre in Castletownbere.
