Mono-prints created by Arts for Health participants in Skibbereen Community Hospital with visual artist Sharon dipity form part of our beautiful Bealtaine exhibition this year.
All At Sea developed out of an investigation into mark-making. Taking the sea as their inspiration, participants made spiral and wave-like drawings to a sea-themed soundtrack. As the work progressed, the group explored small rocks and shells with magnifying glasses.
These mono-prints were made by drawing onto paper placed over acetate covered with intaglio ink. Participants then drew their chosen rock or shell onto the paper. When peeled off the acetate, the print is revealed. Some of the acetate plates were used more than onces, resulting in ‘ghost’ printing.
Sharon allowed some of the acetate plates to dry out so they could be displayed with light shining through as an artwork themselves.
